Parent Involvement

Parents can play many roles in sport: current or former athlete, coach, fan, motivator, role model or critic. We are so thankful for all the parents who contribute in a variety of ways. Especially those coaching, on the board, and helping with scorekeeping. Thank you to our hard working volunteers!

Volunteers

Volunteers are necessary for this association to function in its present and future operations. The FVCJHA is a non-profit volunteer-based organization, which attempts to keep its fees as low as possible in order to facilitate the opportunity for Christian youth to play ice hockey.

All adult volunteers will be required to complete a Criminal Record Check. Details will be emailed to all League participants early in the season, and will be required to complete this (can be done online in 5 minutes) before being allowed to help on the ice or behind the benches.

Volunteer opportunities can include coaching, officiating, scorekeeping, and Board activities.  Details will be provided to the parents of all league participants over the course of the season. The more the merrier! The league is willing to educate/train those who are interested.

FVCJHA Code of Conduct

Responsibilities of all Participants in the FVCJHA

The FVCJHA Board has adopted a Code of Ethics for volunteers, coaches and players. The Board also expects parents to endorse and stimulate the same Christian values inherent in these ethics. Thus, what follows is the Board’s Expectations of Parents.

It is expected that supporting parents endorse and promote the FVCJHA as follows:

  1. Recognize that this is an extra-curricular activity, and deemed to be a privilege, not a right. In addition, recognize that the selection of players and teams is often a complicated and challenging undertaking;
  2. Support the coaches and officials in positive ways. Make a point of celebrating the value of sports as contributing to and enriching the cultural fabric of our community;
    3. Display appreciation for the many volunteers who willingly give their time to make the League and its events happen;
    4.When possible, offer assistance - in logistical planning, timekeeping, officiating, coaching, preparing/dressing players, or other similar valuable efforts;
    5. Demonstrate Christian values in expressing concerns; avoid gossip, unfair criticism, slander, and other forms of unjustified negativity;
    6. Demonstrate Christian values by expressing concerns directly to the coach(es) in a manner which promotes mutual respect and love; the goal would be to seek a mutual solution. Follow up could subsequently be directed to the Division Rep or other FVCJHA Board member as necessary;
    7. Expect the coach(es) to be willing to accept compliments with humility, and concerns with grace and patience.
    8.  Parents are expected to show respect when communicating with on-ice officials at all times. They must refrain from yelling or using abusive language directed at officials, the opposing team, or their child’s team, whether from the stands, behind the glass, in the lobby, or any other location within the facility..
